Sunrise on the Blue Slate Mountain, Snowdon, Llyn Peris, Llanberis, Snowdonia, Wales - Commercial Quarrying began at Dinorwig in the early 19th century. Railways with dozens of steam trains transported the slate from Dinorwig to the sea. The quarry closed in 1969 and is now a major tourist attraction. The slate industry dramatically changed the landscape, slate tips, quarry buildings and railways can still be seen today.
