St Maria of Salute Basilica, The Grand Canal, Ponte dell'Accademia, Venice, Italy - I took this photograph at sunrise from the wood and metal bridge of Ponte Dell'Accademia which crosses the Grand Canal. The Basilica Santa Maria Della Salute (aka Salute), is a Roman Catholic church located at the tip of Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere. The basilica is 154 feet tall, took 56 years to build and was completed in 1687. Construction started a year after Venice suffered a deadly outbreak of the plague, as such the church was dedicated to Our Lady of Health or Deliverance (Salute). The artist Canaletto was born in Venice and painted many iconic scenes, scenes that remain virtually unchanged today.
