Pink Clouds over Manhattan Bridge, New York City, New York, America - The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge, with a span of 1,470 feet, that crosses the East River connecting Lower Manhattan with Downtown Brooklyn. The bridge opened to traffic on December 31, 1909. The bridge is considered to be the forerunner of modern suspension bridges. It was the last of the three suspension bridges built across the lower East River, following the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges.
